It's All About the Meg

Thu Sep 3, 2009, 6:49 PM
--------------------------------------------
***IMPORTANT UPDATE!***
I have cleaned out a lot of my old artworks from this account as I feel they don't honestly represent who I am as an artist. Apologies to anyone who has lost a favourite or two ;) but rest assured, there is more, far awesomer art on it's way!
--------------------------------------------

My name, as you may have worked out by now, is Meg.

I am a freelance illustrator/weirdo/tattoo artist. I've been doing the illustrating/weird thing professionally for about 8 years, and am now working in a tattoo studio on the North Coast of NSW, Australia. I have a separate site on here for my skin arts, you can go and check it out here; [link]

In 2005 I completed a Diploma of Illustration and Design at St George Design College in Sydney. I've been drawing since I could grasp a pencil in my abnormally and freakishly small hands, and I like pie. A lot.

So, What Exactly Do I Do?

Anything! I rock realism, I love portraiture and stuff like that. On the other hand I really dig little cartoons, and cutesy-pie faff. But, I have a thing for skulls and death and other Goth-tastic stuff like that. Most of my work centres around women, because we really do pwn everything, and lets face it who doesn't love boobage. But apart from that I love steampunk, tribal/ethnic and fantasy. And anything with wings. I specialise in designing tattoos, and I love helping people bring to life the picture they see in their head.

So like I said, I really will draw anything. Just as long as it doesn't push the boundaries of common decency, and even then I'm open to negotiation. :D

What Medium?

All psychic jokes aside, I mostly use watercolour, and ink. This is less a conscious choice and more something I fell into, as my mother is a watercolour artist/weirdo. I do love oils as well, and my perennial fave is always graphite. I sketch everything, like a demon of the pencil. Ah, hell, I love it all. I really do.

So... Anything Else?

I do commissions, and am happy to take them on. I sell prints off my website, Angels and Mermaids.com [link] you can contact me there [or here] about commissions, or email me directly at meg@angelsandmermaids.com

I sell my art and other weird crafty things regularly on Etsy [because it owns Ebay and generally rocks my handmade socks];

For the voyeuristic or bored, I also keep a Livejournal that gets updated fairly regularly too, with new art and other comings and goings, including my apprenticeship in tattooing;

Oooh and yes, I also have a facebook too. You can find me there almost aaallll the time...
